Dear Friends and Music Lovers,

The Ontario/Chaffey Community Show Band, directed by Jack Mercer, invites you to a concert titled “Hooray For Hollywood” on the evening of Monday, April 12th beginning at 7:30 pm.  This FREE show will be held in the Gardner Spring Auditorium, on the campus of Chaffey High School, 1245 North Euclid Avenue in Ontario.

The Show Band will reach into the archives to present musical treasures from many of Hollywood greatest movies of years past. This musical review begins when Tinsel Town was trying to move from the “silent screen” to “talkies” with Al Jolson’s movie called The Jazz Singer. There will also be music from movies such as 42nd Street, As Time Goes By, A Summer Place and Lawrence of Arabia.

Our featured vocalist for the evening will be Shiela Ruff and Brian Detwiler singing But Not For Me, Love is a Many Splendored Thing, Tara’s Theme from Gone With The Wind, and It’s Only A Paper Moon. Other guest artists will be a young group called Youth Music Outreach and the very popular Sunshine Generation adding a youthful expression to the show.

In addition to all this excitement, we will hold a contest to name our Hungry Tuba with special prizes for the winners.  Come early and have a cup of FREE STARBUCKS COFFEE, put some green stuff in the Hungry Tuba, and look over all of our DVD’s.  Should you like a DVD copy of any of our 2007-2010 shows, please stop by any of our concerts and pick up a copy.  They will be available in the lobby for a $10 donation.

This concert will be broadcast on local Ontario cable Channel 3.  Check your cable listings for the date and time.

Your Favorite Band Director,
Jack

Hometown Jamboree
On the first Saturday of each month (see our calendar for occasional blackouts), Rileys at Los Rios Rancho puts on an old-time music variety show, just like those great old radio and t.v. shows of the 40s and 50s. There’s one difference – we throw in a hearty family-style dinner to boot!
At the Hometown Jamboree, families can tuck into a tasty meal and enjoy a hand-clappin’, knee-slappin’, toe-tappin’ good time as Riley’s Mountaineers and special guest performers pick, fiddle and sing their favorite old-time bluegrass, western, and gospel tunes, as well as a few surprises along the way.
Guest musicians are always welcome to tote along an instrument or two and join in the free-wheeling jam after the show.  You never know who’ll turn up, or what you’ll hear next.
Come on up for some chicken and pickin’! At our reasonable adult and kid prices, it’s the best meal – and deal – around. Here are the dates:
  • November 1, 2008 / 6pm – Sold Out!
  • January 3, 2009 / 6pm
  • February 7, 2009 / 6pm
  • March 7, 2009 / 6pm
  • April 4, 2009 / 6pm
  • May 2, 2009 / 6pm

Hi guys :) First of all, here is a pic with Howard Jones! The mini-tour was fun, crazy and wonderful!!!

Secondly, I want to thank every one of you for supporting my music.
My new album, Modern Fairytale, wouldn’t exist without your help and contributions, and my new video for HOPE wouldn’t have happened without the beautiful images you sent me. I just saw my first Ringo Starr concert, and was very inspired to get “a little help from my friends” (you :) ) So here goes…

As you probably know, I don’t have a giant PR machine behind me. It’s just word of mouth. Yep! EVERY word counts and makes a big difference. And I mean BIG!! So… if you’re as proud of what we’ve accomplished together as I am, here are a few easy things you can do today to get my music out there. You can make all the difference.
Super huge Russian-American THANK YOU in advance :) ))

- send these 2 free songs to a couple (or all!!) of your friends!!!
http://marinav.com/FREE/
(they can buy the rest of the songs on iTunes, amiestreet, etc)- gift my album on iTunes to your friends (only $7.99 in US!!! that’s pretty much a Starbucks latte)

- send a link to the HOPE video to your friends!!
http://www.youtube.com/marinavdotcom - embed the HOPE video onto your myspace, facebook, etc – go to this page to get the code
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnlQdWQOdwc
- buy a CD on www.MarinaV.com for a friend – I’ll sign it for them and will write their name in Russian!!! How many artists would do that for you? :)

- get active on our newly modified forum http://www.MarinaVKomrades.com (thanks to everyone who helped with the new forum!!! you know who you are!!!)- organize a house concert (or a concert in your town). Check out http://www.marinav.com/houseconcert.html for more info

- have a friend who works in film/tv/music/radio industry? Introduce them to my music – you never know where a connection might lead!

- have a friend with a shop/yoga studio/restaurant? Maybe they’ll play my CD there!

- any other suggestions? post them at http://www.MarinaVKomrades.com – see you there!!!!
You guys are amazing. Thank you again.
Hugs, Marina :)

The CSO was formed as a component of the Moreno Valley Community Band. Many of the musicians are also members of that group’s Citrus Wind Ensemble and other bands throughout the Inland Empire, such as the historic Riverside Concert Band, The American Bavarian Brass Band, and the Citrus Stompers dixieland group. Others have their own ensembles that play commercially for special and private events throughout the region.

The group is composed entirely of volunteers — none receives any direct compensation for performing, although they are reimbursed for travel and other expenses. Our musicians, some of whom played the music the first time around, come from all walks of life. A few are retired while others need to keep their day jobs, but all are drawn together by our love of music and the quality of the sound we make together. Our audiences feel the same way. Here’s a list of our regular players (* indicates principal) and some of those who fill in from time to time:

Riverside Concert Band

Join Us

The Riverside Concert Band always welcomes new members.

Current members are drawn from Riverside and the surrounding area. Some come from as far away as Sun City to the south and San Bernardino county to the north.

Most of our members are 1) musicians with years of experience, some who play with more than one group, 2) musicians with past, but not recent, experience who “dusted off” their instruments to become active in music again, 3) students who are in music classes and want to broaden their experience by playing with another group, and 4) new arrivals to the area who were trying to find a local community band to join.

The requirements to become a member are possession of an instrument, a willingness to come to rehearsals and concerts, and the ability to learn our music. There is no audition required.

Percussionists: A practice drum set and other percussion instruments are available at rehearsals.

Join us and become a part of the oldest, continuous, volunteer band that is also active all year long.
